isle@sk Policies
Who We Are
isle@sk is a project of the islandlibraries partners: Holland College, UPEI, and PEI Public Library Service, supported by TownSquare (Virtual Charlottetown). When you submit your question, it will be reviewed and answered by trained reference librarians in one of the three institutions.
Who Can Use isle@sk?
We welcome all visitors, however only residents of PEI may submit questions. If you live outside the province, we suggest you visit your local library for assistance and will provide referrals as appropriate.
How Long Will It Take?
When you submit a question, you will receive an immediate acknowledgement. You should expect an answer from our librarians within 1 working day of submission (Monday to Friday, statutory holidays excluded). Complicated questions may take longer, but we will advise you if that is the case.
When you submit your question, please let us know (on the form) if you have a deadline by which time you require a response.
What Kind of Questions Can/Can't I Ask?
We will answer simple, factual questions, and we can suggest sources (such as web pages, databases, indexes, or other information brokers) where you will find more information in your subject area. We can help with your homework, term paper, business plan, etc., but we cannot prepare it for you.
We regret we cannot supply:
- legal or medical opinions (information, yes; advice, no)
- extensive research documentation or literature searches
- consumer recommendations
- answers to contests or puzzles
- product evaluations
- information from city directories
- information/research in support of Access to Information and Privacy inquiries
In addition, please be advised that we may refuse to answer questions that we deem to be frivolous, harmful, harassing, obscene, or illegal.
In supplying answers, we comply with copyright laws and licences. Information that you receive as part of your answer may be subject to similar restrictions, and you are responsible for obtaining further permission to use the material, if necessary.
What Happens to My Question/Answer?
Your question and its answer will be archived and may be published on our website in a bank of frequently asked questions. Before that happens, your name and all personal references will be stripped from the content. Once archived or published, you should know that anyone may review your question and use the information without permission.
What About Personal Information?
isle@sk treats all personal information (such as name, email address and other coordinates, or library PIN numbers) in a confidential manner. We may review this information for statistical purposes (such as determining the number, origin, and subject area of questions) but we will not share it with others. As noted above, personal information will be stripped from questions/answers before they are archived or published.
The library partners in this service make every effort to ensure the accuracy of information provided on this website and in answers to your question. However, the information is provided "as is" without express or implied warranty. The libraries, their employees, officers and trustees bear no liability for damages, direct or indirect, arising from or related to use of this web site or service.
In addition, please be advised that we have no control over the availability of remote (secondary) sites which may be used to answer a question, and we are not responsible for the content of those sites. The inclusion of a link on this website or used as a secondary resource in responding to a question does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation by the project partners.
